5 Things You Must Know About Hormonal Birth Control

Before starting or continuing hormonal contraception, these five facts about nutrient depletion, mood, and long-term effects can change your decision.

Let me start with something important: this article is not here to shame anyone for using hormonal birth control. It is one of the most widely used medications in the world, it gives women genuine autonomy over their reproductive lives, and for many people it is the right choice — full stop. That's not up for debate here.

What is worth discussing is the fact that millions of women are prescribed hormonal birth control with very little information about what it actually does inside the body.
